Shaft Control

If you want to target different printer bays for different pages of your Legacy Word report, you need to divide the template into appropriate sections.

Instead of page breaks, use Page Layout > Breaks to insert a section break (new page).

You can now select a separate printer or printer bay for each of these sections. Place the cursor in the appropriate section and use Page Layout > Page Setup to define the printer settings. Make sure that Apply to: Current Section is set.

Conditional Pages

When creating Word reports, it can be useful to show or charge individual pages only for certain conditions. An example of this would be an expense sheet for an invoice, which should only be shown if it actually has expenses to be charged on the invoice.

To this end, the following approach is recommended:

  1. After the section that the page follows, go to Page Layout > Breaks a Section Break > Insert Continuous.
  2. In the next section, insert a normal page break using Insert > Page Break.
  3. Now comes the corresponding page, in our example the detail page.
  4. In Word, rearrange the view so that you can see the formatting characters:
  5. Now enter the entire expense sheet INCL. page breaks, but WITHOUT section breaks, with a band and enter a cond expression (for information about bands, see article on Word reports). It could look like this:

You can also set multiple pages in a row in this way. On the previous page, enter a new section break consecutively, INSIDE the previous cond band, and another page break OUTSIDE the previous cond band. Repeat step 5.

Convert a section break (new page) to a section break (continuous)

If you have the case that it already has a section change (New Page), you must not simply delete it and replace it with the construct described above, because the section before the section change applies the printer settings as well as the header and footer of the deleted one.

In this case, insert a normal page break after the existing section break (as in point 2). Then place the cursor in the area after the section break and click on Page Layout > Page Setup. In the next dialog, under Layout, set the section break to Continuous (Caution: double-clicking on the section break itself will also display this dialog, but the adjustments made there will have no effect. It is important to open the dialog via Page Layout > Page Setup).

After that, the belt must be adjusted in such a way that it only covers the side change, but no longer the section change (see point 5).

Page break per list item

If you are reading Vertec object lists in Word and need a new page for each list item, a page break can be used. Hover your cursor over the first row in the ribbon, click Paragraph and activate the Page Break Above option on the Row and Page Break tab.
