The performance of a Vertec environment is not only influenced by the Vertec standard software and customizing, but also by the infrastructure and the database system. The following graphic visualizes the four levels including responsibilities. The levels are to be understood in such a way that the higher level builds on the lower level. So if, for example, the infrastructure causes performance deficiencies, this loss of time cannot be remedied by performing customizing.

In the following article, we provide you with a resource in the form of a Vertec database to evaluate the two layers of infrastructure and database system.

When Vertec is started with this database, the load and computation times of certain Vertec objects and OCL expressions are recorded in a standardized way using Python, which equalizes the levels of Customizing and Vertec standard software. This means that the load and computation times are essentially determined by the infrastructure and the database system, and the result can be used as a benchmark.

Approach

To perform performance measurement, follow these steps:

  • Download the following zipped DB backup file (according to your DB server): Firebird db or SQL DATABASE .
  • Save the file in the DB Folder of your Vertec installation directory.
  • Perform a database restore (see Backup of vertec data for Firebird DBs).
  • If you are using a Vertec version after 6.6.0.1, start the desktop app and perform a Database Convert .
  • Start the desktop app as administrator. By clicking on OK, the measurement will be carried out automatically:
    And the results finally shown:
  • Optionally, the results can also be compared to those of the web app by restarting the cloud server and logging in to the web app as an administrator.
  • You can now compare your results with those from the Vertec Forum and publish them. About the button zum Vertec Forum go directly to the corresponding topic.
