From On-Premises to Cloud: How Libera AG Saves 25% Costs

Libera AG, a leading provider of pension fund advisory and services, has taken a decisive step towards digitalization. Together with Vertec, the previous on-premise system was successfully migrated to the cloud – with a focus on cost efficiency and future security.

But what impact did this change have on Libera AG, and how did the transition proceed? CFO Claudio Ernst brought the answers in his talk at the user conference 2024. You can watch the full video here:

The starting point

Since 2012, Libera AG has relied on Vertec’s integrated CRM and ERP. Libera ran the software on its own servers. Vertec was used via Citrix. Updates each time involved greater coordination effort between internal IT, external IT service providers and Vertec.

Choosing the Cloud

Libera decided to seize the opportunity and migrate their systems to the Vertec cloud. The goal was to simplify IT infrastructure, reduce costs and minimize operational costs in the long run. With Vertec’s cloud suite, Libera’s internal processes were significantly optimized.  

A decisive advantage: Libera AG saves around 25% of its IT costs by switching to the cloud. This significant saving results not only from reduced licensing costs, but also from the elimination of third-party providers such as Swisscom, reduced coordination efforts and the elimination of server infrastructure costs. Instead of coordinating several service providers, Libera now has only one point of contact: Vertec.

But there were also concerns that the team had to weigh carefully beforehand. In particular, the location of the servers and privacy requirements were an important issue. Libera relied on Vertec’s ISO 27001-certified data centers to ensure that all data is handled securely and in compliance with Swiss data protection regulations.

Implementation: A Smooth Transition

Thanks to close cooperation with Vertec, the transition to the cloud went almost smoothly. “The transition was a quiet takeover,” says Ernst. There were no major disruptions to operations. Martina Andereggen, responsible for housekeeping of the system, was able to carry out the migration in parallel with day-to-day operations. The implementation was so well prepared that employees hardly noticed that they were now accessing the time tracking system via the cloud.

The results: a complete success

The move to the Vertec Cloud has proven to be a great success for Libera AG. Employees can now access the system anytime, anywhere without having to worry about servers or updates. Reducing complexity and communicating directly with Vertec has greatly simplified support.

“The employees hardly noticed that we moved to the cloud,” says Ernst. “This is a clear success for us, as we had no problems with acceptance. There was no resistance, and everyone is now working even more efficiently than before.”

Of particular note is the impressive cost savings of 25%, made possible by the elimination of own servers, reduced coordination effort, and a leaner IT infrastructure. For Libera, this means not only lower operating costs, but also a more efficient use of resources and a noticeable reduction in workload.

The move from an on-premise solution to the Vertec Cloud was a well thought-out and successful step into the future for Libera AG. The decision to move from the old server structure to a cloud-based solution proved to be profitable both financially and operationally.
